BOM admits the windchill is icy
Winter is coming and don’t we know it as icy breezes straight off the Southern Ocean bring down the temperatures, but a Bureau of Metrology duty forecaster said not to worry, warmer days, kind of, are ahead.

For heaven’s sake Northern Rivers residents, it’s not that cold.
Not compared to Mawson Station in the Antarctic, anyhow.
That’s the gist of the message from the Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster Helen Kirkup, when we rang and asked her why it is so darn freezing up here.
“It’s not that cold in Lismore,” she said.
“Today (Sunday, May 30, 2021) Lismore had a top of 19.6.”
But Ms Kirkup did concede that when you are used to a long period of war weather, a drop in temperature can be a bit of a shock.
Ms Kirkup said the June average for Lismore 21C.
“It is winter next Tuesday, so this temperature is understandable,” she said,
“Next Thursday is predicted to be 23C.”
However, step outside right now she said, and the breeze may feel a tad icy.
“But if you feel cold, you can blame it on windchill.
“The cold wind you are experiencing has started from way down in the Southern Ocean.”
However, by the middle of the week the Northern Rivers will be a bit warmer, so take heart.
“Although the nightimes will stay cold,” Ms Kirkup said.
“It will soon be back to being beautiful one day, perfect the next.”
Meanwhile the BOM is predicting showers for Monday May 31, 2021, so keep your brolly handy.
