Biodiversity Management Strategy to go ahead

THE rescission motion lodged by several Lismore City Councillors over the Biodiversity Management Strategy have not been carried.

THE rescission motion lodged by several Lismore City Councillors over the Biodiversity Management Strategy has not been carried at a special council meeting last night.

Mayor Jenny Dowell posted about the decision on Facebook.

"5 Councillors tried to overturn last month's decision in support of the Biodiversity Management Strategy by lodging a rescission motion- we debated it at an extraordinary meeting tonight and it was lost so last month's decision to support the BMS - and a special rate variation to implement it - stands," Cr Dowell said.

The rescission motions were put forward by councillors Graham Meineke, Greg Bennett, Gianpiero Battista, Neil Marks and Mathew Scheibel, with Cr Dowell saying in the lead up to the extraordinary meeting that the motion would probably fall flat.

The BMS will be accompanied by a rate rise, which is expected to start on July 1 2016.
