Beau Smith to defend alleged break and enter charge in trial

A Goonellabah man who allegedly was behind a serious break and enter will defend himself against the charges.

A Goonellabah man is now set to defend himself against serious criminal charges.

Beau Alexander Smith, 34, will plead not guilty to the charge of aggravated break and enter and intent to commit a serious indictable offence while armed.

Mr Smith also faces three related charges of common assault, intimidation, and destroy or damage property that will be considered on a 166 Certificate.

On Wednesday, solicitor Jessica Meech told Lismore Local Court the matter was ready to proceed to Lismore District Court for arraignment.

Mr Smith who appeared for a brief period on audiovisual link had recently undergone surgery for a ruptured pancreas the court heard back in late April.

A participate in a criminal group and contribute to criminal activity charge was previously withdrawn.

His de facto partner and co-accused Ashley Thistleton will appear before court at a later date.

She is charged with aggravated robbery in company, supplying a prohibited drug, damaging property by fire, participating in a criminal group, robbery in company and possessing a prohibited drug.

Police will allege the Goonellabah woman was part of the “Loyal Crims” gang responsible for a number of serious crimes across Northern NSW that they thwarted in December last year.

Magistrate Jeff Linden adjourned the matter for arraignment on June 27 at Lismore District Court.

A related apprehended violence order of Mr Smith’s was adjourned to a later date.
