Lismore City Council and Yamato Takada in Japan have enjoyed a sister city relationship for 52 years, with thisincluding the Sister City Student Exchange Program, enabling school students to experience and learn from a different culture.

Council is now calling for nominations from secondary students to participate in the exchange from September 23 to October 2.

Council is also seeking nominations from people interested in being chaperones for the Lismore students as well as host families to accommodate Japanese students visiting Lismore in late July, Sister City Advisory Group Chairperson, Councillor Neil Marks said.

"Being an exchange student, a chaperone or a host family will definitely change your life," Cr Marks said.

"We have had many students come to Lismore from Japan and previous host families will tell you that their eagerness to learn and graciousness when they are visiting is a joy to behold.

"For students and chaperones, travelling to Japan is an amazing experience, particularly to a city that holds Lismore in such high regard. Japan has a rich and unique culture, fascinating history and food, and of course a very deep and lasting connection with Lismore.

"Being part of the 2015 Sister City Student Exchange Program would be a learning and growing experience for any students, chaperones or host families who wish to take part."

Interested people need to complete an application form, which can be found at www.lismore.nsw.gov.au. The closing date for applications is June 12.
