BERTIES the Bargain Butcher in Lismore reached the end of an era on Friday as it sold its last steak and lamb chop before closing for ever.
The ‘bargain butcher’, located next to Farmer Charlie’s on Conway Street, has ended its 13 year presence in Lismore with Farmer Charlie’s taking over the butcher shop from today.
Owner Brad Holloway said the butcher had always provided an alternative to the big supermarket prices and did not rule out another Berties Butcher in Lismore in the future.
“We have been the only ones that have been sticking it to the supermarkets and providing an area in the market that they couldn’t fill,” the 40-year-old said.
“The closing down was a big shock but change is good. I have no plans in the immediate future to start another Berties in Lismore but if the opportunity arises then maybe.”
Robyn Peaty has been a Berties Butcher employee since it started 13 years ago and has helped ‘keep the boys in line’.
“It is very sad. I’m the only one that has been here for 13 years. It’s the end of an era,” she said
Ballina Berties will remain open.
