Ballina Shire Council is about to embark on a major project at the Waste Management Centre, but they’re asking if people can delay dropping off non-essential waste.

Work will start on Tuesday, August 3 to replace the roof of the transfer station.

The Waste Management Centre will remain open during these works, but access to the waste transfer station public drop-off area will be closed for the duration of the works and a temporary public drop-off area will be available behind the administration building.

“To avoid increased wait times or disruptions, Council asks residents to delay dropping off non-essential waste until the roofing works are complete and the transfer station is reopened,” the council said in a statement.

“Instead, residents are encouraged to store their waste and drop it off once the works are complete.

“Ballina Shire Council would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding during these works.”

It is expected that works will be completed by the end of August, weather and site conditions permitting.

The waste transfer station is an open-air shed located within the Ballina Waste Management Centre.

The station is the key drop-off location for residents disposing of household quantities of rubbish, recycling and electronic waste.

The Community Recycling Centre is also located at the transfer station, which accepts a range of common household hazardous wastes for free, such as batteries, paint, oil, ink cartridges and smoke detectors.
