Richmond Valley Council has opened up expressions of interest from local artists to design their new mural for the Casino water tower.

Council is looking to select three people or teams to design artwork for the water tower with $1000 dollars on offer per person or team.

Council have allowed for $80,000 dollars to commission the mural which is expected to cover designs, travel costs, preparation costs, equipment hire and permits.

The mural project was announced earlier this year, with Page MP Kevin Hogan saying the mural will help bring visitors to Casino.

“That’s about giving councils a job-creating project to do … a lot of this in Casino is around tourism,” he said.

“What they (the council) are trying to do is develop more of a tourism experience for people here in the Richmond Valley and Casino because we want people to come back.”

“This will compliment the riverside precinct.”

Expressions of interest are open until Friday January 15.
