Alleged Lismore carjacking, 200km/h police chase to border leads to extradition
The alleged driver was extradited from Queensland after the stolen vehicle was involved in a collision.

A man has been extradited from Queensland after an alleged carjacking and high speed pursuit across the Northern Rivers.
Around 2pm on Saturday, a 25-year-old man was seated inside a BMW sedan on Dawson Street, Lismore, when an unknown man opened the car door and allegedly assaulted him, before taking the vehicle and fleeing the scene.
The man was uninjured and alerted a passing police vehicle.
Officers began patrolling the area and identified the BMW travelling north on Wilson Street.
They attempted to stop it but the driver allegedly accelerated and disappeared from the scene.
At around 3pm, the BMW was found travelling west along the Tweed Valley Way at Murwillumbah, more than 70km north of Lismore.
Officers activated warning lights and sirens.
The driver failed to stop and police initiated a pursuit.
The vehicle allegedly reached speeds of approximately 200km/h in a 100km/h zone.
The pursuit was terminated a short time later.
The vehicle then crossed the border into Queensland at the M1 Motorway, before it was involved in a collision at Reedy Creek.
The driver – a 30-year-old man from Urraween in Queensland – was arrested by Queensland Police a short time later and taken to Southport Police Station, where he was remanded in custody.
On Tuesday, detectives from Richmond Police District attended Southport Courthouse where they successfully applied for the man’s extradition to NSW.
On Wednesday the man was escorted to Tweed Heads Police Station and charged with assault with intent to take / drive motor vehicle,;police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously; drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous; and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.
He appeared at Tweed Heads Local Court on Wednesday, where he was formally refused bail.
He will appear at the same court on Wednesday November 24.
