5G switched on in two Northern Rivers towns as Telstra ramps up rollout

The “cutting edge” technology has been rolled out in two more locations as part of an upgrade that will also deliver improved 4G capacity and speeds in the local area.

Telstra 5G coverage is now available in Evans Head and Iluka, with Telstra recently switching on 5G services as part of a national rollout of the next generation of mobile technology.

It joins the growing list of Northern Rivers towns with 5G, including parts of Lismore, Casino, Kyogle, Ballina and Murwillumbah.

Telstra’s Northern NSW regional general manager, Michael Maron, said it was exciting to roll out 5G in two new places.

“There are more than one million 5G devices already connected to the Telstra network and thousands more 5G devices being added every week,” he said.

“We’re continually expanding our 5G network across NSW and we’re adding up to 60 new Telstra 5G sites to the network every week across the country.

“Telstra has been leading the way in pioneering 5G technology and making 5G technology available to regional customers.

“People living in both Iluka and Evans Head now have a chance to be part of that cutting edge.

“Rolling out Telstra 5G in Iluka and Evans Head demonstrates Telstra’s commitment to regional Australia as we expand our 5G network across the country.”

The recent 5G network upgrade will also deliver improved 4G capacity and speeds in the local area.

Telstra made a commitment to roll out its 5G network to 75 per cent of the population by the end of June 2021.
