TWIN brothers are wanted by police after the discovery of two major clandestine labs in the state’s far north.

Warrants have been issued for Liam and Rhys Hoynes, 24, who vanished from the Inverell area after police raided properties where they found large quantities of precursors for the manufacture of methamphetamine.

Police believe the twins, who grew up in the area were allegedly expanding their operations in an attempt to supply drugs on a major scale in and around northern NSW.

“The pair are well-known in the Inverell area and we have received great support from the community in our pursuit to find them,” New England Police District Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Ann Joy said yesterday.

“Our inquiries are being assisted by the Drug and Firearms Squad and neighbouring police districts, and we’ve engaged with Queensland Police Service in relation to potential sightings on the Gold Coast.

“We welcome any information from the community in relation to their whereabouts,” Det Insp Joy said.

The NSW Drug and Firearms Squad joined with local detectives to form Strikeforce Clune earlier this year to investigate the supply of drugs and weapons in the mid north of NSW.

On April 5 they went to a property in Mitchell St Inverell where they spoke to one of the twins and noticed glassware near a shed. They returned the next day with a warrant and uncovered a clandestine lab, seizing nearly 300 items including, drugs and documentation.

Three days a larger lab was found in Winterwood Rd, Tingha which was also used to make MDMA and ice. Police said the labs were linked and allege that the Hoynes twins were involved in their operation.

On May 11 police issued warrants for the arrest of the two brothers.
