RAW: Lauryn Eagle leaves Sydney court

LESS than a month after she won an appeal to overturn a conviction for driving under the influence of drugs, Lauryn Eagle has landed in court again. This time police allege she was drunk behind the wheel at Bondi Beach.

According to court documents, the professional boxer and swimsuit model drove on the wrong side of Blair St between 1.10am and 1.35am on August 1.

When pulled over by police the 30-year-old was drunk but then refused to provide a breath test when asked by a constable, police will allege.

Eagle, who once dated former NRL bad boy Todd Carney, is now facing four criminal charges over the incident and will appear at Waverley Local Court on August 29.

The charges include driving under the influence of alcohol, refusing or failing to submit to a breath test, driving on the wrong side of the road, and not keeping to the left of the median strip.

It is the first time Eagle has been charged with driving under the influence, the court documents said.

Driving under the influence carries a maximum penalty of 18 months in jail or a $3300 fine for a first offence.

The charge carries the same penalties as high-range drink-driving but is based on police observations, rather than a breathalyser reading.

Refusing to give a breath test has a maximum penalty of a $1100 fine.

It comes 27 days after Eagle had a drug-driving conviction overturned in Downing Centre District Court.

Eagle was fined and had a conviction recorded after she pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of drugs in Downing Centre Local Court in January.

The one-time world water skiing champion was charged after she tested positive to methamphetamine during a random breath test when police pulled over her Audi Q5 on Henry Lawson Dr, Peakhurst, at 10am on July 12, 2017.

On January 30, Eagle pleaded guilty and Magistrate Hugh Donnelly recorded a criminal conviction, fining her $600 and banning her from driving for six months.

The result was overturned on appeal after Judge Helen Syme accepted Eagle’s argument that she accidentally drove with amphetamine in her system because it was in her ADHD medication.

Judge Syme downgraded the punishment to a section 10, which means Eagle admitted the offence but no criminal conviction was recorded.

Eagle, the current women’s national super featherweight boxing champion who appeared in Celebrity Apprentice in 2012, did not answer or return calls yesterday.

Her lawyer Adam Houda hung up when contacted.
