TROUBLED sports star and swimsuit model Lauryn Eagle has been charged with driving with an illicit drug in her system, despite claiming she was on prescription medication at the time.
Police say Eagle tested positive to having methamphetamine in her system when she was pulled over for a random drug test at Peakhurst, in Sydney’s southwest, on July 12.
The world champion water skier and Australian super-featherweight boxing titleholder tested positive on the side of Henry Lawson Drive, after police stopped her black Audi Q5 about 10am.
She was taken to Kogarah police station for a second test and a saliva swab was sent off for analysis.
That result has since come back positive and Eagle was charged on Tuesday with driving with an illicit drug in her system, police said.
She is expected to appear before Sutherland Local Court on September 26.
When The Daily Telegraph broke the story about Eagle testing positive to drugs, she went on Channel 9’s Today and slammed journalists for writing untruthful reports.
“The way the journalists can twist and smear, when their job is to report objectively, you are playing with someone’s soul ... I didn’t choose, sort of, for it to come out in the media.
“It is just severe to me. You are playing with someone’s life — it chips away at you little by little.”
She said two medications she had been prescribed had caused the positive drug result.
“I have been diagnosed for a couple of years now with narcolepsy, depression and also ADHD,” she said.
“It’s a three and six week wait (for the police report) so, um, you know, it’s heartbreaking because it’s not true one iota and it would have been revealed in six weeks time when it comes back with all the correct reports but the damage gets done and they don’t get (it),” she said.
At the time, her lawyer Adam Houda took to Twitter, angrily rejecting suggestions Eagle had taken illicit drugs, and also blaming prescription drugs for any potential positive reading.
“She hasn’t taken any illicit drugs,” he also told The Daily Telegraph.
“Such a suggestion would not only be wrong but also cruel and unfair.”
Attempts to contact Mr Houda yesterday were unsuccessful.
Eagle is no stranger to police.
She has been handcuffed after refusing to leaving Northies at Cronulla, been convicted of damaging property at her family’s Peakhurst home and found guilty of driving while suspended and giving a false name to police.
