Lauryn Eagle allegedly tested positive for drugs while behind the wheel
A TEARFUL Lauryn Eagle has claimed this morning that depression and ADHD prescribed medication was the reason behind her positive drug test result in Sydney’s southwest on Wednesday.
A TEARFUL Lauryn Eagle has claimed this morning that depression and ADHD prescribed medication was the reason behind her positive drug test result in Sydney’s southwest on Wednesday.
The 29-year-old professional boxer and swimsuit model said the media attention surrounding the incident was “playing with someone’s soul”
“It’s heartbreaking for me and my family,” she told Channel 9’s Today Show reporter Sylvia Jeffreys.
“I’ve been diagnosed for a couple years now with narcolepsy and probably more commonly known depression in the media lately and also ADHD so then went back to the station and they did another test which needs to be sent to the laboratory in Lidcombe.
“I let the police know and they’ve got all the information. I was released. I don’t get charged until the results come back from the laboratory and with all the doctor’s reports and prescription medication that will be released.
“But just the allegations of my name being on illicit drugs and being in the industry I’m in, it’s heartbreaking.”
Eagle was allegedly caught driving under the influence of drugs in broad daylight.
She was pulled over in a black Audi Q5 for a random drug and alcohol test just before 10am this week.
Her lawyer Adam Houda rejected suggestions Eagle had taken illicit drugs, and also blamed any potential positive reading on prescription drugs.
“It’s a three and six week wait (for the report) so um you know it’s heartbreaking because it’s not true one iota and it would have been revealed in six weeks time when it comes back with all the correct reports but the damage gets done and they don’t get,” Eagle said today.
Police say Eagle was subjected to a random alcohol breath test but she returned a negative result on the side of Henry Lawson Drive at Peakhurst.
She was then asked to do a random drug test and she allegedly returned a positive result.
Mr Houda denied any wrongdoing on Eagle’s behalf.
“She hasn’t taken any illicit drugs,” he said. “Such a suggestion would not only be wrong, but also cruel and unfair.
“I have received confirmation from her doctor that any positive reading would have been a direct result of the prescription medication he has prescribed to my client to treat an existing health issue. The cops only need to make one phone call to verify what I’m saying.”
It is understood Eagle is being treated for a sleeping disorder.
Eagle, who has dated NRL exile Todd Carney and ex-boxer Lovemore Ndou, was arrested and taken to Kogarah police station, where she underwent a second test.
The test has been sent for analysis but it may take several weeks for the results.
Police issued her with a notice of prohibition for driving for 24 hours before she was allowed to leave the station. She has not been charged.
The maximum punishment for driving under the influence of drugs for a first offence is $3300 and three months’ jail.
This is not Eagle’s first run-in with the law. In May 2013, the world champion waterskier was cuffed by police when she refused to leave Northies at Cronulla.
At the time police said they were forced to restrain her and took her to Miranda police station, where they gave her an infringement notice for failing to leave premises when requested.
Later that year in November, the former Celebrity Apprentice star was charged with maliciously damaging property and two counts of common assault following a dispute at her family’s Peakhurst home.
The common assault charges were dropped but she was convicted of property damage and placed on a good behaviour bond and ordered to do anger management counselling.
In 2010 she was found guilty of driving while suspended and giving a false name to police and was given a section 10 — which means no formal conviction was recorded.
At the time her lawyer argued Eagle had suffered significantly after her father Peter Eagle was killed in a high-speed crash on Sydney Harbour, while she spoke openly about her battle with depression in 2014.
Eagle won the Australian super-featherweight boxing title last year.
