OFFICERS searching for the body of missing woman Qi Yu are scouring areas in Sydney’s north, including Berowra, Cowan and Mount Kuring-gai, with the help of water police and helicopters.
The Daily Telegraph understands the flatmate charged with her murder is allegedly refusing to co-operate with police in their efforts to find the 28-year-old’s body. Police have narrowed down a few areas where they believe Ms Yu’s body may have been dumped.
Police will allege Shuo Dong, 19, killed Ms Yu in their shared Campsie townhouse last Friday, June 8, following a dispute over money.
It is alleged he then used her Toyota Corolla to transport her body afterwards.
Although Ms Yu’s body has yet to be found, police believe she was killed after discovering large amounts of blood in the Campsie property and her car, which was found in the neighbouring suburb of Burwood.
Senior police sources say Ms Yu was talking to her mother on the internet when their call suddenly ended about 7.15pm on Friday, June 8.
Her frantic mother raised the alarm and police were called.
The next morning officers questioned Dong, who was sub-leasing a room from Ms Yu, but he complained of health problems and was taken to hospital.
He was released from hospital on Tuesday and later charged with Ms Yu’s murder.
On Wednesday Burwood Local Court heard police had applied for Dong to undergo a “forensic procedure”, to which defence lawyer Matt Kwan said Dong — who remained in the court cells during the brief mention — had not consented.
That application will be decided at a later date, while Dong is next scheduled to face court on July 9.
Police will allege Dong used Ms Yu’s car to transport her body after she was killed some time between 7.30pm on Friday, June 8, and 9am the next day.
Her car was found parked on Lindsay St, Burwood — 4km from her house — on Saturday morning.
Ms Yu’s mother arrived in Sydney at the weekend and has been speaking with police.
Vincent Chen, who lives two doors from Ms Yu in the Campsie complex, told The Daily Telegraph he heard the distraught mother arrive at the alleged crime scene with police on Sunday morning.
“She cried and cried … she didn’t sleep for three days already,” Mr Chen said.
“If something happen to someone’s family like that, it’s terrible.
“She was a very honest and quiet girl, a very nice girl.”
