A five-year-old boy has died in hospital after a head-on car crash in Sydney’s north west on Thursday afternoon.
A grey Toyota HiLux driven by a teenager collided with a red Mazda 2 driven by a 33-year-old woman, with the young boy as a passenger, collided about 4pm at Annangrove Rd, Kenthurst.
About 30 emergency services personnel from police, ambulance, CareFlight and Fire and Rescue teams attended the scene shortly after receiving reports of the collision.
Paramedics treated the child for head injuries at the scene before taking him to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, where he later died.
The female driver had to be extricated by firefighters and was taken to hospital, where she remained in a serious condition on Saturday.
The driver of the HiLux – an 18-year-old male – was uninjured and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
The red Mazda 2 could be seen on the opposite side of the road with a severely crushed front bonnet and a shattered windshield.
The driver’s side of the car was completely detached exposing the internal mechanisms of the car motor that spewed across the road.
One firefighter was seen holding the jaws of life in his hands as crews worked to release the woman and the boy from the hatchback.
An investigation into the crash is under way and investigators are urging any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of the crash to come forward.
