How the NSW Government is helping you save thousands of dollars

Struggling families are failing to talk about their money woes or ask for a financial helping hand from loved ones or organisations as they feel too ashamed.
Exclusive data from the Department of Customer Service shows 46 per cent of NSW residents are hesitant to ask for financial support compared to 29 per cent who are open to getting help.
Feelings of shame and guilt, discomfort around talking about money or preferring to manage it themselves are key barriers to reaching out.
As the cost of living creates pressure on family budgets, seeking support from the NSW Government has never been more crucial.
Since the Savings Finder program started, NSW residents have saved a whopping $6.33bn from a range of rebates for expenses including household energy and utilities, transport, raising children, dining, experiences and accommodation.
Single mum and part-time worker Tracey Schofield from Rooty Hill has saved an anticipated savings of $4355.50 after her appointment with Service NSW.
These included the low-income household and gas rebates and the fee-free apprenticeships.
“It doesn’t take long to jump online and see what you can save ... every little bit helps,” she said.
There’s more than 70 rebates and savings on the Service NSW website.
Savings specialist Lisa said customers will need to answer six simple questions online or organise an appointment over the phone or at a Service NSW centre.
“The Regional Seniors Travel Card, the Stay NSW voucher and National Parks Concession Pass are proving popular for those wanting to explore their own backyard,” she said.
Minister for Customer Service and Digital Government, Victor Dominello, said the average family saving per year is more than $750.
“Whether you’re a family, retiree or young professional, there is hip-pocket relief that can be accessed via Service NSW,” he said.
