A raid on a Hells Angels bikie’s apartment has led police to a woman’s home where they allegedly found a weapon hidden in her freezer, and a nine-year-old boy left home alone.
The woman was visiting the East Gardens unit of Hells Angels member Meyez Elkerdi when officers from the NSW Police Raptor Squad burst through the door about 6am on Thursday to carry out a search warrant.
At the same time, other officers had entered the woman’s South Coogee home to complete a search and, to their shock, found a young boy inside alone.
During the search of the 27-year-old’s home they allegedly found an electronic stun device and $10,000 in cash hidden in the freezer.
Both items were seized and the woman was taken to Maroubra Police Station where she was charged with one count of possessing a prohibited weapon and one count of goods in custody suspected of being stolen.
In a statement, NSW Police said a child-at-risk notification had also been submitted to the Department of Family and Community Services.
The Raptor Squad’s operation to target Elkerdi and his associate comes as part of a crackdown on the Hells Angels inner-city Chinatown chapter.
A prominent force among the Hells Angels OMCG, police sources said in recent times the chapter had been increasingly creating headaches.
“I don’t think the Chinatown chapter has ever gone away, but they’ve been trying to resurrect numbers and just being more of a nuisance recently,” a source said.
“Some of the old inner-city crew have moved on and so we’ve seen numbers starting to boost.
“They’ve been involved in conflicts and a fight down south, but that’s been common across the whole of the Hells Angels really.”
During the search of Elkerdi’s home, police allegedly found steroids.
The drugs were seized and taken away for forensic examination, with no charges laid against Elkerdi.
