Peak-hour commuters struggled through bumper-to-bumper traffic on the Harbour Bridge and across the CBD this morning after two buses slammed into each other.

Police say one bus ploughed into the back of another about 9am while travelling northbound.

The accident gave passengers a surprise jolt but no one was injured while six passengers on one of the buses had to be transferred to another bus.

The crash forced the closure of one of three northbound lanes and traffic was queued across the bridge as authorities worked to clean-up the crash.

Both buses were towed away and all lanes reopened after 10am.

Roads approaching the bridge including on the Cahill Expressway, Western Distributor, City West Link at Haberfield, and Victoria Road at Rozelle were also clogged up by traffic and commuters were urged to allow plenty of extra time to travel.
