A man is in police custody after a 22-year-old was stabbed in the chest near a major highway in Sydney’s inner west. In a separate incident, a man armed with a machete robbed a service station in the south west.

Man arrested after Haberfield stabbing

A man has been arrested after a 22-year-old was stabbed in the chest near a major highway in Sydney’s inner west.

The man was stabbed twice to the left side of his chest outside a home on Sloane Street near Parramatta Road around 8pm on Sunday.

Police arrived to find the man bleeding profusely with multiple wounds to his chest.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to RPA Hospital in a serious condition for treatment.

A man, also aged 22, was taken into police custody over the stabbing around 10.30am on Monday.

Sydney servo held-up by man with machete

A service station in Sydney’s south west has been robbed by a man armed with a machete overnight.

The man – donning a black hoodie, gloves and a balaclava – stormed Metro Petroleum on Ballantrae Drive, St Andrews, around 10.45pm on Sunday.

Armed with a machete, he threatened the attendant before demanding money.

The attendant handed over an unknown amount of cash before the robber fled on foot.

The staff member was not injured in the robbery.

A crime scene has been established and police have sought the assistance of the Dog Unit.

Detectives are urging any witnesses or anyone with dashcam vision in the area at the time to come forward
