Court hears accused guard told inmates he had bikie mates before allegedly raping the women
A senior prison guard told a female inmate he is alleged to have repeatedly raped that he was a former police officer with friends in outlaw bikie gangs, a court has heard.
A senior prison guard told a female inmate he is alleged to have repeatedly raped that he was a former police officer with friends in outlaw bikie gangs, a court has heard.
Police allege 62-year-old senior correctional officer Wayne Astill inflicted a horrific campaign of manipulation and abuse on the woman at the Dillwynia Correctional Centre, one of two victims he allegedly targeted between October 2016 and September 2017.
Astill was arrested at his Kurrajong Heights home on Wednesday and charged with 12 offences, including aggravated sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault and aggravated indecency.
Documents tendered in Penrith Local Court detailed the alleged threats Astill made to the woman if she refused to commit sexual acts or reported him.

“Do you want to move” he allegedly said to her, and words akin to “you might find yourself moved back to the main and at another jail”.
Police allege the woman would record the dates each of the alleged offences took place, by marking the letters “AW”, which were Astill’s initials in reverse.
In the court documents, seen by The Daily Telegraph, police claim Astill told the woman “he was a former NSW Police officer and that he had friends who were members of outlaw motorcycle clubs”.
It is alleged Astill also tried to kiss another inmate, who feared reporting the incident thinking she would not be believed.
When Astill was confronted about the allegations by senior prison staff, he claimed one of the women asked him “to father a baby with her”.
The State Crime Command’s Corrective Services Investigation Unit began looking at the case after one of the women made a 13-page statement to police last year.
“Police allege the corrections officer used his knowledge of the facility to manipulate the female inmates to areas where he could have their control and make them perform sexual acts,” Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty said.
The accused appeared by video link wearing a blue San Francisco T-shirt. His family sat in court and appeared visibly stressed as the details of the charges were revealed.
The court heard that while under video surveillance the accused made admissions of guilt, however later claimed all sexual interactions between the victims were consensual and initiated by them.
Astill’s release was granted on Thursday on $30,000 bail and the conditions he report to police every day and not approach his alleged victims.
The case was adjourned to April 26.
