A former Corrective Services officer accused of sexually assaulting two inmates at an all-female prison claimed the sexual interactions were consensual and initiated by the victims, a court has heard.
A former Corrective Services officer accused of sexually assaulting two inmates at an all-female prison claimed the sexual interactions were consensual and initiated by the victims, a court has heard.
Wayne Astill appeared in Penrith Court today, charged with 12 counts of aggravated indecent assault and aggravated sexual assault of two female inmates.
The 62-year-old was arrested at his Kurrajong Heights home yesterday morning.
Police will allege that the incidents occurred during his time as a senior correctional officer at Dillwynia Correctional Facility, near Windsor.
The alleged incidents are claimed to have occurred between the periods of October 2016 and September 2017.
The accused appeared by video link wearing a blue San Francisco T-shirt. His family sat in court and appeared visibly stressed as the details of the charges were revealed.
It is understood the victims have provided statements including dates and other information about the alleged incidents.
The court heard that while under video surveillance the accused made admissions of guilt, however later claimed all sexual interactions between the victims were consensual and initiated by the victims.
Mr Astill was granted strict conditional bail on the terms that he reports daily to Windsor police station and he have no contact with anyone in Corrective Services.
The court heard that Mr Astill’s partner is employed by Corrective Services and the conditions were changed to allow him contact with her. Mr Astill has been removed from his position within Corrective Services.
The matter is due to return to court on April 26.
