SOME were dressed as rabbits shedding tears of blood, while others held placards calling NSW Premier Mike Baird “Judas”.
More than 500 greyhound ban backflip protesters descended on Martin Place today.
Lolly Wilson and Amelia Humphries dressed up as rabbits with red bloody tears.
“Every element of it is steeped in cruelty, it’s just morally wrong,” Ms Wilson said.
Ms Humphries added: “It was a massive shame he (Mike Baird) folded, it was the one time in a long time the animals actually won.”
NSW Greens MP Mehreen Faruqi told the rally, “I am devastated and I am gutted by this U-turn by Premier Baird”.
“The evidence of animal cruelty and brutality is overwhelming. It’s widespread, it’s systemic and it’s heart-wrenching, and we will not tolerate any more of it.”
Animal Liberation NSW’s Emma Hurst said the greyhound industry had enough chances.
“At first Baird was right, Baird said that 79 recommendations would need to be put in place and even then it was unlikely this industry could reform,” she said.
“Reforming justice is just delaying justice … already since his reversal announcement five greyhounds have died on track. How many more chances does this industry get?”
Protester Heather Leishman said: “the industry doesn’t have any redeeming features as far as I’m concerned.”
There was even a puppet of Mike Baird with a dollar sign tie.
“Mike Baird — You Judas. Double Crossed Our Dogs. Sold them Out,” one sign read.
Another said: “Alan Jones says jump, Mike Baird says how high”.
The Daily Telegraph broke the news that Mr Baird met with the radio broadcaster on the eve of announcing he was reversing his greyhound racing ban.
