THE full list of influential attendees entertained by the Great Barrier Reef Foundation during a luxury retreat at the six-star Qualia on Hamilton Island have been revealed.

THE Great Barrier Reef Foundation entertained the heads of the country’s biggest oil and mining companies at a luxury retreat at the six-star Qualia on Hamilton Island after being awarded a $443 million government grant.

The Daily Telegraph can today reveal the full list of influential attendees of the three-day trip in May who were pampered with drinks, snorkelling lessons and housed in private villas which cost $2000 a night.

The trip – billed as a “unique education program” - included a who’s who of Australia’s business elite, including BHP Billiton Foundation chair Karen Wood, ConocoPhillips president Wendy King and Orica group executive Darryl Cuzzubbo.

The powerful lobby of mining, gas and oil executives were chauffeured around the island and given meals and drinks at the luxury resort during their stay.

The weekend was described as a means for executives to hear directly from scientists but most of their time was spent touring the island to yacht clubs and ocean tours.

Among the business dignitaries was then Google Australia boss Jason Pellegrino who has since moved to the Fairfax owned Domain.

Qantas executives Alan Joyce and Olivia Wirth were both pampered by the reef foundation over the weekend as well as Larry Marshall – the heads of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation.

Labor has warned the Great Barrier Reef Foundation in a letter not to spend too much of the grant funds as it will recover money if there is a change of Federal Government.

The massive one-off grant was allocated to the foundation by the Turnbull Government to tackle crown-of-thorns starfish and mitigate the impact of climate change was allocated to the foundation.
