It’s ‘unreal’ said the owner of Yamba Shores Tavern about the latest stage of development approved there, although a 75cm miscalculation set it back a few months.

“Unreal” was how owner of the Yamba Shores Tavern Matt Muir described the news that construction of five serviced apartments at the riverside establishment had been given the final tick of approval.
He wasn’t phased that a 75cm miscalculation in plans encroaching over their boundary onto the edge of the Clarence River set things back a few months.
Mr Muir says the new apartments will enjoy a view over the “prettiest part of the river” and fill a “massive void” in Yamba’s accommodation market.
“It’s the last piece of the pie here really in terms of what we were looking to achieve when we set out about 12 years ago.”
The sprawling tavern has been developed in stages and last week Clarence Valley Council approved the construction of the five serviced apartments.
The concept was approved by councillors late last year and they considered a number of factors including if adequate parking would be available once the apartments were built, but the technicality in relation to the 75cm encroachment set things back a few months.
The estimated cost of the work, which will include the demolition of a caretakers cottage, is just over $2.1m.
Mr Muir is not sure when construction will start but wants to time it so the tavern will remain operational during their peak times at Easter and over the Christmas holidays.
“It might be we don’t start until after Easter next year, but who knows, if we engage a builder today we could start before then. I haven’t had a moment to scratch myself.”
The five fully self-contained apartments will be located at the northeastern end of the Mainbrace, Yamba overlooking the water.
With all the rooms having ensuites this provides the option to “key off” rooms to allow for different configurations, Mr Muir explained.
