A trip to Queensland went horribly wrong for three young men when they allegedly bought a gel blaster, resembling a Glock 22 pistol, and decided to use it in a music video they were filming.

In Grafton Local Court on Monday 20-year-old Asquith man Robert Cottrell’s lawyer entered a guilty plea of possessing an unauthorised firearm at Maclean on his client’s behalf.

Cottrell’s two co-accused are Thomas Logue and Samuel Osei-Tutu.

Osei-Tutu entered a plea of guilty but sought to have the facts altered, while Logue has not yet entered a plea.

According to documents tendered to court, Logue allegedly purchased the gel blaster in August while he was on a holiday with Osei-Tutu and Cottrell.

“The gel blaster is black in colour and strongly resembles that of a police-issued Glock 22 pistol,” police facts state.

On August 14, the young men returned to NSW and stopped occasionally to film footage for a music video they were creating.

“During the creation of this video, the firearm has been pointed at one of the others by (Cottrell),” court documents tendered on Cottrell’s proceedings state.

“A witness has seen the males with the pistol and the witness to contact triple-0 due to legitimately fearing that the firearm was real and a person’s life was in danger.”

Police soon received further calls about the trio and soon found them at Eight Mile Ln, Glenugie.

Officers then drew their firearms and demanded the trio get to the ground.

Logue told police the firearm was “just a gel blaster,” the court heard.

When police secured the firearm, Logue told police they were only using the gel-blaster to film a music video.

In court, Cottrell’s matter was be transferred to Hornsby Local Court where he is due to be sentenced on October 18.

While Osei-Tutu’s will face court on November 13
