South Grafton mechanic Geoff Rose angry after break-in

A South Grafton mechanic says being repeatedly targeted by thieves is “not a fun place to be” as he braves his business’s latest break-in.

Break and enter Coopers Plains

Mechanic Geoff Rose hopes whoever broke into his South Grafton business spends their takings on upskilling to become a productive member of society.

But he is not holding his breath.

Thieves cut through a fence and forced a roller door off its hinges to break into Motortorque Automotive in Bent Street some time on Sunday night.

Mr Rose, who has owned the business for 28 years, said the thieves appeared to only be chasing money and any equipment to help them break into the next place.

“I would hope to think that whatever money they are pinching would be put towards buying a lawnmower so they could earn themselves some money rather than stealing, but that’s probably wishful thinking,” Mr Rose said.

The thieves not only damaged the roller door but they broke a glass window and ransacked the building stealing honesty boxes, coins from a drinks machine and cash from the float.

It was the second time the business has been the subject of a break and enter in the past 18 months.

“It’s not a fun place to be in,” Mr Rose said.

“We are always doing our best and help people out whenever we can.

“So for people to just take what isn’t bolted down is not right.”

The police put the estimated damage to the building at thousands of dollars.

Grafton police officer Chief Inspector Jo Reid said the break-in happened between 2pm on Sunday, February 6 and 7.45am on Monday, February 7.

“We are currently reviewing CCTV footage and the premises will be forensically examined,” Chief Inspector Reid said.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Grafton Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
