Three girls had allegedly been sexually assaulted by the man on several occasions between 1995 and 2004 at locations including Doon Doon, Baryulgil and Tenterfield.
A Yowie Bay man was initially allowed to leave the scene of a major police operation at the Queensland border but was stopped just north of Grafton a few hours later.
