A young North Coast man with a lengthy criminal record was busted with drugs and a stash of unsecured guns when police raided the country property he was living on.
Waterview Heights man Nathan Timpson, 24, fronted Grafton Local Court.
The 24-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing an unregistered firearm, two counts of possessing an unauthorised pistol, three counts of not keeping a firearm safely and three counts of possessing a prohibited drug.
He also pleaded guilty to possessing ammunition without a licence, acquiring an unauthorised firearm and cultivating cannabis plants.
The court heard Timpson, who has faced court previously in relation to drugs and stolen items, was living in a property near Grafton with at least five others at the time of offending.
Police discovered the drugs and guns when they visited the country property on March 30.
Officers arrived and found Timpson “asleep on a lounge in an open shed” about 10am, according to court documents.
Police told Timpson they would be searching the property.
They found three .22 calibre rounds in his back pocket and placed Timpson under arrest.
Officers spotted a “a rifle with a scope attached” which was “under the shed, leaning against a wall”.
Soon after, police found more ammo, a modified Glock pistol in a red toolbox, as well as a “freshly oiled” rifle, the court was told.
Timpson was also caught with a black Desert Eagle-style gel blaster pistol.
He did not hold a firearms licence or permit at the time.
Police also found 0.8 grams of methamphetamines, more than half a kilogram (586 grams) of cannabis leaves, 11.5g of cannabis seeds and five plants.
In court on Monday, defence lawyer Matilda Lynch was successful in seeking bail to continue so Timpson could finish a rehabilitation program.
The case was adjourned to January 27.
