Man sleeping in car, 64, attacked by pack of strangers at Jacaranda Park in Grafton

A man, 64, has told police he was punched, kicked and hit with an unidentified weapon by a group of six at a family park on the North Coast. Here’s what we know.

Police are seeking information from the public after a man sleeping in his car was woken and attacked by a group of six people at a popular Grafton park.

The 64-year-old man was in the vehicle when the six strangers approached at Jacaranda Park on Prince St about 10.15pm on Thursday.

He was punched and kicked several times and struck by an unidentified “long” weapon after he hopped out of his car, police have been told.

The group of “unknown persons” fled when a witness came to the man’s aid.

The man drove himself to Grafton Base Hospital and was treated for cuts on his head.

Coffs/Clarence Police District officers attended Jacaranda Park and set up a crime scene, which has since been forensically examined.

Investigations are continuing on Friday.
