A Copmanhurst man has been ordered to complete a community corrections order after pleading guilty to domestic violence related common assault.

Kasey Steven Murray, 40, appeared in Grafton Local Court on Tuesday for sentencing.

According to the court documents, Murray committed the offence on a female victim on the afternoon of June 6, 2021.

“The victim had been endeavouring to get you to come home,” Magistrate Kathy Crittenden said.

“Granted she approached you and pushed your sunglasses off your head, but then you pushed her in the chest, and she fell backwards onto the bonnet of a car.

“The victim would have been mortified as she has had previous incidents of domestic violence.”

Murray’s defence submitted that he had been drinking “a lot for a day and a half” prior to the incident and had since sought alcohol education.

“He concedes it was his response to what she was saying to him while he was under the influence of alcohol,” Murray’s solicitor said.

Ms Crittenden said it was “a very serious matter and drinking or being under the influence of alcohol is no excuse”.

Murray was convicted of the charge, fined $500 and ordered to complete a 12-month community corrections order which includes alcohol rehabilitation and domestic violence education.
