Teenage boy facing eight charges after chaotic crash on Oliver St and Villiers St intersection in Grafton

Police have now charged a teenage boy following a dramatic traffic crash between a truck and SUV in the centre of Grafton. Here’s what we know.

Police have charged a 16- year-old boy following a dramatic traffic crash between a truck and SUV in the centre of Grafton.

Firefighters, police and paramedics were called to the intersection of Oliver St and Villiers St about 8:10am on Thursday.

NSW Police Senior Sergeant Amanda Crouch said a Toyota Kluger SUV and a small truck collided after the smaller vehicle failed to give way.

Police allege the 16-year-old boy driving the SUV and a 19-year-old man travelling as a passenger fled the scene, but were found nearby and arrested.

A 15-year-old boy in the SUV was taken to the hospital under guard suffering serious leg and chest injuries. He was later transferred to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.

A 43-year old man driving the truck was treated by paramedics for injuries not considered life-threatening.

The 16-year-old driver has been charged with eight offences, including aggravated dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.

He has also been charged with causing bodily harm by misconduct, taking and driving a vehicle without consent of the owner, negligent driving, failing to stop and assist, unlicensed driving – prior offence, and aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence.

He was refused bail to appear before NSW Children’s Court on Friday.

Sgt Crouch said all young men travelling in the SUV were being looked at as part of investigations.

The road was blocked off for several hours after the crash.
