A man has been kept in remand after allegedly threatening a Grafton Base Hospital security guard with a syringe after entering the Grafton Hospital car park with intent to steal from a motor vehicle.

Courtney Walker, 32, is alleged to have threatened security staff at 8pm on May 1 on the grounds of the hospital after several witnesses reported a man was observed yelling out.

The man was also observed to be attempting to open the doors of vehicles.

It is alleged the security staff member approached the man in the hospital car park about the behaviour and was subsequently threatened.

The accused Mr Walker faced charges including armed with an intent to commit an indictable offence and enter building / land with intent to commit an indictable offence in Grafton Court on May 2.

Mr Walker’s defence lawyer Joshua Hatch argued for bail stating that his client is willing to abide by reporting restrictions and curfews and reside in Tabulam.

Mr Hatch additionally argued that Mr Walker has a medical condition that requires access to services to sustain treatment.

Police Prosecutor Sergeant Fairleigh stated concerns of failing to appear and endangering victims and members of the community.

Sgt Fairleigh added there were no bail conditions that could satisfy mitigating those concerns.

Magistrate Kathy Crittenden noted “significant evidence of noncompliance”.

Ms Crittenden concluded there was an unacceptable risk to the community and refused Mr Walker bail.

The matter has been listed for May 16 with pleas to be entered on the day.
