Police arrived to a single-vehicle collision on Old Glen Innes Road on Saturday to find that the driver had left the scene.

They were called to the location at 3.30pm on Saturday afternoon to find a white Toyota HiLux that had collided with a tree near Chambigne, 10km southwest of the Gwydir Highway.

No one was located at the scene, but police made contact with a friend of the registered owner – a 23-year-old man from Boambee East, who ascertained that the driver was the owner of the car.

The driver attended Grafton Police Station the following day and admitted to losing control of the car on the slippery road, and was the sole occupant.

Witness reports indicate that by the time the car was towed away, it had been stripped of its contents.

According to Coffs/Clarence Police he suffered a cut to his nose and a broken toe in the incident, and was issued with a ticket for negligent driving.
