Over the past six months, businesses across NSW have been caught flouting food safety or hygiene rules.
The NSW Food Authority’s ‘Name and Shame’ list exposed the most recent businesses who racked up breaches for a variety of reasons, including using an illegal preservative or selling food past its use-by date.
Together, these restaurants and food retailers have coped over $10,000 in fines.
A spokeswoman from the NSW Department of Primary Industries said the name and shame registry is updated every week with information about the latest breaches.
“The NSW Food Authority publishes the Name and Shame register to allow consumers easy and transparent access to all current food safety breaches in NSW. It also serves as a deterrent to non-compliant operators,” the spokeswoman said.
All the local government areas which recorded the largest number of penalty notices were in Sydney.
Burwood businesses coped the most fines, with 11 breaches recorded, followed by Canterbury-Bankstown, which had seven breaches.
Newcastle, Port Stephens and Yass Valley all registered the most breaches outside of Sydney, with each area having two recorded fines.
