SCOTT Greensill has been appointed the general manager of the Clarence Valley Council.

Clarence Valley Mayor Richie Williamson yesterday announced the appointment of the father of three and Singleton Council general manager to the council’s top job.

Cr Williamson said the job was one of the most important in the Clarence Valley and welcomed him to the position.

He said he looked forward to a strong relationship working together on the issues facing the community and the council.

Mr Greensill said yesterday he was looking forward to “getting my feet under the table”.

“All the signs are there that this is a very strong and solid council,” he said.

He said he had done some assessments on the council, and believed moving into the top job would involve a huge learning curve.

Before moving to Singleton, Mr Greensill was Maryborough Council chief executive officer, leaving when the Maryborough and surrounding councils were forced to amalgamate in 2008.

He then worked as a consultant before taking up the position at Singleton.

He said there were likely to be similar issues between Maryborough and the Clarence Valley.

The Maryborough Council, he said, serviced a population of about 45,000. The Clarence Valley has a population of more than 50,000.

Maryborough had coastal areas under development pressure and an inland administration centre, much like the Valley.

He said he wanted to make sure the council was operating sustainably.

“We don’t want to leave an unwanted legacy for the future,” he said.

Mr Greensill yesterday gave four weeks’ notice from his existing position and said he would take a four-week break before starting in the Clarence.

He is due to start work at the council on October 17.

He replaces Stuart McPherson, who retired last month.
