A MAN has died after a truck and a car collided on the Pacific Highway near Iluka this morning.

Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter was called to the scene at Mororo, near the corner of Mororo Road, at 5.45am.

Initial reports suggest the driver of the Ford station wagon was about 60 years old and from the NSW Central Coast, although that has not yet been confirmed.

SES workers were called to the scene to rescue the man from his car.

He suffered multiple trauma injuries, including multiple leg fractures and chest injuries, and was taken to Lismore Base Hospital in the helicopter.

He died on arrival from a trauma-related heart attack.

The driver of the semi trailer suffered minor leg injuries and was treated by paramedics at the scene, but refused to be taken to hospital.

The crash happened on a straight section of the Pacific Highway on an overtaking lane.

It is understood the impact ruptured the truck’s fuel tank and a large amount of diesel has spilled on to the highway.
