LABOR frontbencher Shayne Neumann has called on the Turnbull government to release two key reports on aged care.

Health Minister Sussan Ley was given the reports in December last year.

One reviewed the financial performance of rural and regional aged care facilities.

The second report was an "aged care roadmap" created by the government's aged care sector advisory committee.

Mr Neumann called for a "bipartisan approach" to aged care; in the hope Ms Ley would release the reports.

The reports form part of wider reforms to the aged care sector, including changes to make home care packages "consumer-directed" from July this year.

Under those changes, the government expects the number of home care packages will rise from about 70,000 in 2015 to 100,000 in 2017-18.

The government allocated about $20 million to help around 500 providers adjust to the changes.
