A NSW north coast man charged with a sexual offence against a child was on parole at the time for a frenzied stabbing in Queensland, a court has heard.
Joshua Paul Leisinger, 41, was arrested by child abuse detectives from Coffs Clarence Police District in the Clarence Valley village of Iluka on November 5.
Leisinger was charged with intentionally sexually touching a female child aged between 10 and 16 after reports of an alleged incident on September 19 at an Iluka address.
A police bail consideration document tendered to Grafton Local Court states Leisinger is on parole until 2024 as a result of his convictions for assault causing actual bodily harm and wounding over an incident in Blackwater near Rockhampton in Queensland in April 2017.
Leisinger appeared briefly via audiovisual link from jail at Grafton Local Court on November 22, where he confirmed he would plead not guilty to the single charge.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions also confirmed it would take carriage of the case, which would be heard in Grafton Local Court in June 2022.
Leisinger remains behind bars after Magistrate Kathy Crittenden refused his bail earlier in November.
Papers tendered to Grafton Local Court in relation to the prior bail application state Leisinger has a lengthy history of violence and a custodial sentence is likely if he is convicted on the sexual offence.
The matter will return to court next year.
