Grafton residents have been shocked by a massive “bang” resembling an explosion which rocked the northern NSW city and resulted in numerous calls to police.
Many flocked to social media including Facebook after the concerning noise was heard about 9pm on Sunday.
Locals from various parts of Grafton, from O’Malley Cl to Villers St to Cranworth St, all reported hearing the loud noise.
“Anyone hear that massive bang /explosion,” one person posted on the night.
Another pondered aloud: “I wonder what it was it shook our house in Bacon St.”
One resident even claimed to have heard the racket at Junction Hill – just north of Grafton.
NSW Police confirmed they received multiple reports about the mysterious sound and took some action.
“In response to a report of a loud blast around Oliver St Grafton last night, around 9.05pm, police patrolled the vicinity of Oliver St,” a police spokesman said.
“They did not find any evidence of damage.
“Police did not receive any further calls to give a better location.”
For now, the source of the sound and any possible impacts remain a mystery.
