NSW SES is closely monitoring the Clarence, Orara and Bellinger catchments with the Bureau of Meteorology warning a low pressure system could develop off the coast of southeast Queensland today, and move south next week.

The BOM warns a deepening trough along the Queensland coast is likely to bring heavy rainfall to the southeast corner of the state from today, before extending south into the Northern Rivers on Monday.

“This system has the potential to bring moderate to heavy rain to the northeast of the state, as well as strong and gusty winds and large waves to coastal areas from Monday. Fresh to strong winds may also affect parts of the central and northern ranges,” the BOM warns.

“Adverse conditions may extend to parts of the northern inland on Monday and then south along coastal parts on Tuesday and Wednesday as the low moves south. However, conditions should ease as the low weakens and moves further offshore during Wednesday.

“As catchments along the northern half of the coast are relatively wet from recent rainfall and flooding, there is potential for flash flooding and renewed riverine flooding or river rises with this event.”

NSW SES has confirmed a Flood Watch has been issued for minor flooding on the Tweed, Rouse, Wilson and Brunswick rivers as well as Marshalls Creek, with the potential for flooding to extend further south early next week.
