INCREASING community safety has been placed high on Clarence Valley Council's New Year's resolutions list.
The council has developed a crime prevention plan in partnership with the Clarence Valley Crime Prevention Advisory Group which aims to reduce criminal activity in 2012 by promoting crime prevention awareness to local property owners.
With stealing, breaking and entering, domestic violence and malicious damage categorised as the most prevalent crimes to occur in the Clarence Valley since 2006, the plan also focuses on localities, groups and individuals that have previously been associated with criminal and anti-social behaviour.
The plan incorporates a risk management assessment on local criminal activities to identify priorities for strategic action to decrease crime and ensure community services which deter anti-social behaviour are available to support vulnerable groups and victims of crime.
The plan aims to reduce the aforementioned crimes in the Clarence Valley by 20% with regular meetings between council staff and police to plan joint operations for preventing and addressing crime a strong incentive.
The council is also hoping the plan will strengthen relations with community organisations concerned with crime and crime prevention.
The plan also encourages residents to conduct a home safety assessment to reduce the risk of break-ins.
