IF YOU have a grievance to put to Clarence Valley Council, or on the flip side you want to heap praise on them, you now have an online portal to do so.
The website www.clarenceconversations.com.au, which went live last week, is a community engagement hub that enables user feedback and delivers news.
Deputy general manager Des Schroder said the website utilises IT company Bang the Table and its online forum technology to converse with ratepayers.
He said the council had been utilising Bang the Table for online forums linked to its website for the past 18 months.
“Council has used Bang the Table to conduct its online forums on topics including the Clarence River Way project and waste services,” he said.
“Every couple of hours Bang the Table check the site and moderate comments, and make sure there are no offensive comments online,” he said.
Mr Schroder said Bang the Table’s services came at a cost of between $10,000 and $20,000 a year.
“It’s one of the mediums councils have to use today. It’s council’s advancement into the brave new world,” he said.
He said the cost was cheap compared to employing a full-time IT person to do the work of Bang the Table.
According to the blurb on the website, “making sure the community knows what’s happening in the local area is a high priority for Clarence Valley Council, and making sure we know your opinion is even higher.
By establishing this online community engagement hub it’s hoped that not only will we be able to let you know our projects and plans but hear your thoughts on them.”
To comment on the website users must register, and comments on forums can be anonymous by using the Bang the Table option.
