BEN Harper & the Relentless7, Passion Pit, LCD Sound System, Jonsi, Angus and Julia Stone are in this week's Splendour in the Grass 2010 five band sneak peak.

Passion Pit

Passion Pit is a five-piece electronic band, formed in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States in 2007. Michael Angelakos (vocals, keyboards) first heard the name Passion Pit, a slang word for where kids make out at drive-ins, at school. The band’s debut EP Chunk Of Change, with hit song Sleepyhead, was originally recorded on Angelakos’ laptop and later released in 2008. Album Manners was released in 2009 and features singles To Kingdom Come and Little Secrets.

LCD Sound System

LCD Sound System is a side project of DFA Records co-founder James Murphy who started the alternative punk/funk/disco project in 2002. Single Losing My Edge got attention the same year, but the LCD Sound System’s debut and self-titled album wasn’t released until 2005. Single Daft Punk Is Playing At My House was nominated for a Grammy. Album Sound of Silver, featuring North American Scum, All My Friends and Time to Get Away, was released in 2007 and This Is Happening, with singles Pow Pow and Drunk Girls, in 2010.

Ben Harper and Relentless7

If you haven’t heard of this American singer-songwriter, guitarist, activist and Grammy recipient you must’ve been living under a rock since the early 90s and there’s not enough space here to fill you in! Ben Harper will perform at Splendour in the Grass with the Relentless7, a band he formed in 2008. Relentless7 released their debut album debut album White Lies for Dark Times in 2009.

Jónsi

Jón ‘Jónsi’ Þór Birgisson is the singer/bowed guitarist best known as part of Icelandic rock band Sigur Rós. Jonsi has fronted many acts since 1994, including Sigur Ros, who released four albums (in Icelandic, English and Hopelandic – a language created by Jonsi) before a hiatus was called this year; band the Bee Spiders, who were likened to the Smashing Pumpkins; solo material under the alias Frakkus; and a collaboration with boyfriend Alex Somers, Riceboy Sleeps. He is touring to promote solo album Go.

Angus and Julia Stone

Newport siblings Julia and Angus Stone joined forces in 2006 and released their debut EP Chocolates and Cigarettes, followed by Heart Full of Wine and debut album A Book Like This in 2007. Their latest album Down the Way went platinum and debuted at number 1 in Australia earlier this year as well as reaching number 4 on iTunes France. Hit songs include Mango Tree, Just A Boy, Big Jet Plane and more.
