The best clubs from the North Coast converged at Redmen Rugby Grounds in South Grafton on Saturday in the hopes of one day winning the inaugural NSW Waratahs North Coast 7s.
Eight men’s teams and six women’s teams competed against one another in a round robin competition with the goal to accumulate enough points across three rounds.
“This is also the first of three rounds of this series with clubs from the Far North Coast zone and the Mid North Coast,” Development officer for NSW Rugby Union Joey Dedassel said.
“We’ve got teams as far north as Casuarina right down to Wauchope.”
Mr Dedassel said there was a buzz in the air with the competition being one of the first major sporting events to fire up following months of Covid lockdowns and restrictions.
“It’s the first crack at community sport for a while so everyone’s excited,” he said.
Round Two is scheduled for November 20 at Coffs Harbour International Stadium.
