The Clarence River will be the centrepiece of a new one-day festival to be held in the historic village of Ulmarra.

Riverlight Ulmarra will include music and food stalls in Bailey Park as well as illuminated river-based art installations when it comes to town on May 14, 2022.

The festival will focus on the art installations.

It will be produced by Phil Nicholas of Events Delivered and feature creative input from master lantern maker Phill Relf of IKARA Celebratory Events, who has more than 20 years of experience.

“The highway bypass has provided an opportunity to shine a light on the history, stories and characteristics of this charming town, and the festival is designed to attract local families as well as visitors from beyond the region,” Mr Nicholas said.

The event will also enlist the help of local schools through free lantern making classes.

“We thought it important to give teachers a masterclass in lantern-making and to then provide them with the materials to build and decorate lanterns with their students for the parade next year,” Mr Nicholas said.

“On the night there will be a procession through the village before the lanterns are released into the Clarence River to provide an awe-inspiring and memorable sight, which we hope to replicate every year.”
