For years Clarence Valley dog owners have found it difficult to find a safe space for their pampered pooch to run around off-leash.
However, that will soon be a thing of the past, at least in Grafton, with the proposed construction of a brand-new fenced dog park.
Earlier this month, Clarence Valley Council revealed that Corcoran Park would receive an upgrade to the tune of $982,000 which will include the construction of a fenced dog park, the first of its kind to be built in the Clarence Valley.
The upgrade will also include supporting infrastructure including connection pathways, park furniture, shade shelters, dog agility equipment, a water station and suitable vegetation and landscaping.
Funding for the project has been provided by the Federal and State Governments’ combined Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund.
However, it’s unclear how much funding will be allocated specifically to the construction of the dog park.
While news of the fenced dog park has been positively received by the community, residents living outside Grafton took to social media, asking if their local park will receive the same offering in future.
“A fenced area over at South side would be appreciated too,” one resident posted.
“Every town should have at least one and built in an appropriately positioned location,” another resident added.
In the meantime, dog owners will need to make the trek to either Lismore or Coffs Harbour to enjoy a fenced, off-leash area for their fur baby.
