How does one show their smile when they have to wear a mask? It was a conundrum that all contestants had during the 2021 Westlawn Black and Gold Fashions on the Field competition.

Fortunately for Sharon Edmonds of Adamstown, her personality shone through the mask in order to win this year’s event.

“It feels wonderful; I thought the competition was so fierce and it was obviously very nerve-racking with the masks on!” she said.

“We did the five-hour trip up this morning, starting at 6.30am so this is a wonderful surprise.”

As Covid-19 restrictions came into effect overnight, Ms Edmonds said she considered colour-co-ordinating a mask to her outfit.

“We had just moved to a new house and somewhere in the rubble there is a black and gold studded mask, but we just thought, it’s going to be too difficult to find in such a short amount of time.”

“I was eyeing off a lady’s mask in the crowd today because it would have matched my outfit beautifully, but obviously we couldn’t swap masks!”

Ms Edmonds said this was her second time competing at the Grafton event but is a veteran of the Fashions on the Field circuit.
