Brooke McClymont claims runner up in I’m a Celebrity

Country music star Brooke McClymont says her time as a child in Grafton Base Hospital inspired her to overcome some gruelling and gross reality television challenges.

Singer songwriter Brooke McClymont’s time in the jungle, for Channel 10’s I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, was inspired by her time in Grafton Hospital as a child for hip dysplasia.

Ms McClymont was thrilled to come runner up in the reality television challenge but was a little disappointed not to have secured the $100,000 first prize she had nominated for donation to the Grafton Base Children’s and Adolescent Ward.

She said she was happy though to be able to shine a light on the charity as a personal thank you to the Grafton Hospital for giving her quality of life.

Ms McClymont spent 18 months as a toddler in the hospital for hip dysplasia.

“I always thought if I ever have an opportunity to donate money to them I would because I want to give back to the community,” she said.

It’s not only the Grafton Hospital’s profile that has raised as a result of her time in the jungle.

She woke up after the weekend’s runner up announcement listed as number one on iTunes charts across all genres.

“It has been so great and people get to hear us who didn’t know us or know me,” she said.

“They have been able to get to know me, my music and what I have been doing to raise the profile for Grafton.”

She said the best part of being in the show was getting to know a range of people such as Nathan Buckley, Tottie Goldsmith and Poh Ling Yeow.

The worst part was the eating trials.

“I would have to say the eating trial which was the worst was where I had to eat carbonated cow’s urine,” she said.

“I got it down and got a star but then I spewed and lost the star.”

She also had a birthday cake that had cockroaches, worms and a hundred year old egg on it.

“And I had to eat a scorpion,” she laughed.

“All the rest was fun and I loved it and hoped Grafton did too.”
