Aged care service 'humbled' by support

THE Grafton Whiddon Group has been humbled by the support of the community, spokeswoman Mary Griffin said.

The aged care service was about to begin renovation of its palliative care room, Group director of care Mary Griffin said. The group was very thankful for the donations.

"It's reassuring to see that people are willing to donate to us and help improve our facility," she said.

The group has also been hosting its own fundraisers.

"In April we held the Whiddon Walk on site," Mrs Griffin said.

"It was an opportunity for clients to be involved."

About 30 clients participated in the event and staff members laced up their sneakers too.

"If the clients couldn't walk, and still wanted to participate, our staff pushed them in wheelchairs."

"We had lots of laughs," Mrs Griffin said.

With most purchases ticked off their checklist, the Whiddon Group is now fundraising for a new bed for family members of palliative care patients.

"It can be very tiring for families to be here," Mrs Griffin said.

We're looking forward to making people feel more comfortable and welcome."

The group extended its thanks, for donations, to Grafton Shoppingworld Butchery, JADA Hair Design, Gloria Jeans, Donut King, Bunnings, Clarence Valley Kitchens and the family of a former patient.
