An 11.54ha site on the edge of Grafton could soon be home to almost 100 new homes in a bid to increase the supply of affordable housing.
Platino Properties, on behalf of John Codling, has put forward a $6.6 million proposal for a manufactured home estate, with 95 houses, at 252-298 Rushforth Rd, South Grafton.
The proposed site lies on the southwestern edge of Grafton, immediately adjacent to rural land and approximately 4km from the town centre.
According to planning documents, the stretch of land was previously used for both cattle grazing and as a golf driving range in the early 2000s.
The estate would provide a “positive community benefit” and a “boost to the local economy,” the plans state.
“(The estate will) provide secure, quality and affordable housing options with excellent community facilities for older people and/or people with lower incomes,” Platino Properties state.
“(Also,) the success of the nearby Jacaranda Estate, north of the Grafton town centre, demonstrates a popularity for this … affordable form of housing in the area”.
If approved, the development will feature a variety of communal elements, including a swimming pool, caravan storage area, a garden, a children’s play area and a clubhouse.
There will also be 25 visitor carparking spaces and small roads within the estate.
The homes would range from 282 sqm to 450 sqm in size and vary from one-bedroom to three-bedroom properties.
